Virus Protection - Determining Versions

How to tell what version is installed:

On a Windows computer, bring up the VirusScan console by right-clicking on the shield icon in the Windows task bar tray. Then choose "About VirusScan" to see what version you are using.

On a Macintosh running Virex, bring up the Virex Control Panel. Click the Virex menu, then "About Virex". The dialog box will display the version you are running.

Once you know which version is installed on your computer, compare it to the versions displayed on the Virus Protection page. If the current version is newer, remove the old, then download and install the newer version.

Product Numbering

The McAfee VirusScan software product has three version numbers associated with it.

  1. There is the overall product version. Version 8.5i, for which ISU has a site license, is the most recent.
  2. Inside each product is the virus scan engine. The latest is 5100.0194.
  3. There is also a DAT Version, which should be updated daily.
